After a riotous run at The Vaults, Ancient Grease has officially wrapped its 2026 season, leaving behind a trail of glitter, chaos, Greek mythology, and Greased Lightning energy in equal measure.
Set in the underground world of The Vaults, the production reimagined the beloved musical Grease through the lens of ancient Greek mythology, transforming Rydell High into Olympus Academy, and its iconic characters into gods, demigods, and very questionable heroes. The result was a bold, immersive parody packed with live music, audience interaction, and anarchic humour.

Across multiple reviews, the production was praised for its inventiveness, energy and commitment to its concept. The show was described as:
“A love letter to Grease… and you can feel the love present.” - A Young(ish) Perspective
“A Grease-in-Greece parody… committed performances… worth the runtime.” - London Theatre Reviews
“Loud, naughty, completely unhinged… had me howling with laughter.” - The Live Review
The production’s inventive staging at The Vaults was frequently highlighted, with its traverse runway layout and immersive, in-the-round energy placing audiences directly inside the world of the show. Critics noted the ensemble’s commitment to the material and the sheer energy sustained throughout the run, even when the chaos on stage pushed storytelling to its limits.
Among the company, Lucy Penrose’s performance as Aphrodite, part of the show’s reimagined “Pink Ladies” ensemble, drew particular attention. Reviews noted:
“Lucy Penrose was the stand-out… she is also in possession of a fine singing voice, a gloriously deadpan face, and an hilarious ability to improvise when interacting with audience members.” - London Box Office
“Lucy Penrose as Aphrodite deserves a stand out too… she takes the role… and makes you fall in love with the character all over again.” - A Young(ish) Perspective
“Penrose’s ad-libs were some of the funniest parts of the show.” - London Box Office
Across the run, audiences experienced a production that blurred the line between theatre, party, parody and immersive storytelling - a show that embraced imperfection, spontaneity and full-throttle theatrical joy.
As the final bows were taken at The Vaults, Ancient Grease closed not with restraint, but with the same spirit it began: loud, chaotic, affectionate, and entirely unafraid of having too much fun.
The company extends heartfelt thanks to the creative team, production crew, cast, musicians, stage management, and everyone behind the scenes who brought Olympus Academy to life night after night. Most importantly, thanks go to the audiences who stepped into the madness, joined in the chaos, and made the show what it was.
Until next time - stay greasy.
